Set the counting rule

A CPS result depends on the test length, device input and how the timer handles start and stop. Treat it as a within-device comparison, not a universal skill measure.

Put the rule into practice

WORKED EXAMPLE

Forty clicks in ten seconds produces 4.0 clicks per second.

Steps for a reliable tally

  1. Pick a five-, ten- or thirty-second test.
  2. Start the timer, tap until it stops, then compare runs with the same device and input method.
  3. Run the same duration several times and inspect the spread.
  4. If one score is far from the others, note whether you paused or mis-tapped.

Why this detail matters

A touchscreen, mouse and keyboard can register inputs differently. Compare like with like and avoid interpreting small differences as a meaningful gain. The test reports clicks registered by this page, not physical finger movements that the browser did not receive.

During the session

The result becomes more useful when you save the test length beside the score. A five-second burst may favor a different technique from a thirty-second run. Do not compare a touchscreen score with a mouse score as if the input methods were identical.

What can go wrong?

A longer run and a shorter run can differ because of fatigue and timing, not only speed.
